Spotlight on a Jigsaw student of 12 years: Chloe

Chloe is 17 years old and lives in North London. She started Jigsaw at the age of 5 back in 2003 and since then has worked her way up to the Jigsaw Youth Theatre which she currently attends. She also assists at Jigaw Enfield on Saturdays and Jigsaw Finchley on Sundays. As we are celebrating 20 years of Jigsaw, we’re catching up with long-serving Jigsaw students to see how their journeys began and to find out what they feel they have achieved from their Performing Arts training. Here is an insight into the life of Chloe…

Spotlight on Chloe

Where are you from? What school do you go to?

North London, originally Finchley, then I started at Crouch End and transferred from Finchley to Hendon. I also go to Youth Theatre and I assist on a Saturday morning at Enfield and a Sunday morning in Finchley

When did you start at Jigsaw?

When I was 5 so 2003 (I think).

Do you have any brothers or sisters?  Do they attend Jigsaw?

I have a sister called Georgia who is 8 and a brother called Sam who is 12, they both used to go to Jigsaw but he has decided to pursue a career as a footballer!

Why did you decide to come to Jigsaw?

My parents thought it would be a great opportunity for me to make friends and see what activities I enjoy.

What’s your favourite subject at Jigsaw?

It depends on what we’re doing in each subject on that term!

What’s the best thing about Jigsaw?

The fact that we do such as wide range of styles and exercises in each discipline, I’ve had the opportunity to try all sorts of styles that I would otherwise have never had a go at!

What’s your favourite show that you’ve been in at Jigsaw?

Definitely The Mobile Phone Show at the Connections Festival!

What do you feel you’ve gained from being at Jigsaw?

I have gained a lot of confidence, improved my ability in all three disciplines, made loads of amazing friends and have been encouraged to step outside of my comfort zone (something I wasn’t too keen on doing before).

Have you had a favourite teacher at Jigsaw?

I think all the teachers I have had have been amazing, I’ve had so many it’s difficult to choose!

What’s your ambition for the future?

I would love to be an actress but I would never want to stop dancing and singing, so maybe something musical theatre based.

Who inspires you?

Angelina Jolie, she is not only stunning but she does lots of charity work, has adopted several children and is an amazing actress.

What has been your favourite moment at Jigsaw?

Our weekend at the National Theatre, working with Jim Cartwright on The Mobile Phone Show and performing it at the Olivier Theatre.

Who is your favourite actor/actress? Why?

I genuinely don’t have one, I think there are so many incredible actors and actresses out there.

Do you have a favourite song?

I listen to pretty much anything and the songs I listen to change so often (pretty much every couple of days, I tend to love a song then play it so often that I end up hating it!).

If you had a film of your life who would play you?

This is possibly the most difficult question, probably Reese Witherspoon.

Anything else you think we should know about you?

I find horror films, crime documentaries and books on serial killers extremely interesting so that’s what I do with most of my spare time (although I rarely have any). I also love cats!
