Spotlight on… Yael Hayes

Yael most recently played the role of ‘Bert’ in our Summer School production of ‘Mary Poppins’ where Yael impressed us all with her ability to shine as a very competent triple threat performer.

We decided to interview Yael to find out about what keeps her inspired, where she sees herself in the future and to gain an insight into her Jigsaw journey so far…

Do you have any brothers or sisters?  Do they attend Jigsaw?

I have one brother and one sister and my sister now attends Jigsaw.

Why did you decide to come to Jigsaw?

My cousin recommended it, I was passionate about performing and I needed to boost my confidence.

What’s your favourite subject at Jigsaw?

It used to be singing, but now I enjoy every aspect.

What’s the best thing about Jigsaw?

Making new friends, discovering things about them and about yourself.

What has been your favourite moment at Jigsaw?

When I got my first solo in ‘Seasons of Love’.

What’s your favourite show that you’ve been in at Jigsaw?

‘Dear Archie’ and ‘Children of the Revolution’.

What do you feel you’ve gained from being at Jigsaw?

Friendships, performing skills and confidence.

Have you had a favourite teacher at Jigsaw?

They’ve all been amazing but my favourites have been Michael and Jenny.

What’s your ambition for the future?

To further my involvement at Jigsaw and to widen my knowledge about performing.

Who inspires you?

Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance), Evanna Lynch and Danny O’Donoghue (The Script).

Who is your favourite actor/actress?  Why?

Shailene Woodley because I’ve watched her since she was young up till now and I’ve seen her career really grow.

Do you have a favourite song?

Remembering Sunday – All Time Low.

 If you had a film of your life who would play you?

Anna Kendrick.

Anything else you think we should know about you?

I’m doing grades in piano and singing and I plan to take my music GCSE in two years’ time.
