What better way to get 2016 off to a good start than a trip to the theatre? At our Performing Arts Schools we actively encourage theatre visits. The more live shows that can be seen, the better; and there are plenty of exciting musicals and plays – old and new – for children, teenagers and families in London.

So, here we go… in no particular order, here are our:

Top 5 Shows to see in February

5. War HorseNew London Theatre: After a hugely successful run at the National Theatre, Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse transferred to the New London in 2009 and is playing at the New London until late March. With extraordinary puppetry and an moving and pertinent storyline, War Horse is a must-see for young theatre fans aged 10+.

4. The Gruffalo’s Child, UK Tour: Tall Stories offer fantastic family theatre year in, year out. From Room On The Broom to The Snail And The Whale, Julia Donaldson’s rhyming picture books translate wonderfully to the stage. Tall Stories have announced that their hit show The Gruffalo will be playing the West End later this year. In the meantime, however, you can catch The Gruffalo’s Child on tour! Suitable for children aged 3+ and their families.

3. Matilda The Musical, Cambridge Theatre: The RSC’s musical has been a huge success since its first performance in November 2010. With music from Tim Minchin and words from Dennis Kelly it really is one of the most popular family shows in recent times, and well worth a visit this February. Suitable for ages 6+.

2. Goodnight Mr. Tom, Duke Of York’s Theatre: Goodnight Mr. Tom was a huge success when it hit the road in 2011, playing theatres across the length and breadth of the country on a No. 1 Tour. Now it’s back and has nestled into the Duke Of York’s Theatre for a limited West End run. ATG Tickets state that this show is suitable for all.

1. The Woman In Black, Fortune Theatre: Widely studied in secondary schools throughout the country, The Woman In Black has celebrated over 25 years in the West End. A harrowing tale with a superb set and incredible lighting, this show is well worth a watch for a mature, teenage audience, and there are sometimes post-show question and answer sessions for schools and groups. ATG Tickets state that this show is suitable for 14+.
