Jigsaw Bexleyheath …. A Place to Belong!

Alex Jigsaw manager

Alex is the manager at Jigsaw Performing Arts School in Bexleyheath. She chose to teach performing arts to children at Jigsaw due to its ethos. A place to belong! She shares what inspired her to take up performing arts and how she plans to inspire her Bexleyheath students this term.

The first inspiration!

My interest in the performing arts started at a very young age. My family went to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat when I was about 8 and I just knew I wanted to do that when I grew up. After that, I started performing in local productions and my passion grew from there.

I love Jigsaw’s ethos.

I think the performing arts mean so much more to children than just singing, dance and drama. Jigsaw embodies this. Jigsaw is a place to feel safe while exploring who they are. A place to make life-long friends outside of school, while building skills that they will take with them wherever they go in life. Whether that be the West End or university or any job they choose to do in the future.

Singing is my first love!

I have to say singing is the best. I did a music degree at university and I’ve always had a passion for singing. Before becoming a manager and franchisee for Jigsaw, I was a Jigsaw singing teacher!

It’s very exciting to be running Jigsaw Bexleyheath  at St Columbas School in Halcot Avenue, especially coming out of such a tough few months for everyone. It’s fantastic to be able to get the students back to their regular classes while welcoming all our new students who had their start at Jigsaw delayed. We’re really going to be focusing on the children’s well-being this term. We’ve got some fantastic performing arts classes planned.

Inspiring the students.

I really hope that myself and their teachers inspire the students to really be themselves. Here at Jigsaw but also in their daily lives. I think it’s so important to give young people the chance to be individuals, to make mistakes while trying something new and to support them as they grow and develop into amazing humans.
