Singing at Jigsaw isn’t just about learning notes and lyrics, it’s about pure enjoyment. When children sing, they’re doing so much more than making music. They’re improving posture and breathing, strengthening their voices, and sharpening memory and focus. Group singing brings its own rewards. Children learn to listen, blend, and work as a team. Then there are those moments of stepping forward for a solo, building courage and resilience one song at a time.
And the best part? It’s fun! We choose songs that feel exciting and familiar, from West End favourites to current chart hits. Every session is designed to keep children engaged and inspired, whether they dream of the spotlight or just love the joy of singing.
Our youngest performers, aged 3-6, enjoy a 30-minute singing class as part of their 90-minute session. At this stage, we keep things simple and fun, introducing the same core skills at a level that feels playful and engaging. With a maximum of 16 children per class, little ones have plenty of support as they explore their voices for the very first time. For students aged 7-18, singing takes up a full hour within their three-hour performing arts session. Class sizes are kept small, so everyone gets the attention they need to grow in confidence and ability. Lessons cover a wide range of vocal skills, from tone and breathing to scales, placement, articulation and diction.
BOOK YOUR PLACEBoosts the brain: Singing exercises improve memory, concentration, and even the quality of speech, all while teaching children healthy vocal technique.
Deepens musical understanding: Every song is a chance to explore rhythm, pitch, and a variety of musical styles, enriching a child’s appreciation of music.
A full-body workout: Singing isn’t just for the voice! It works the lungs, diaphragm, and facial muscles, improves posture, and even helps keep those sinuses clear.
Expressive and theatrical: Through song, children learn to tell a story and act, building confidence and emotional expression.
Brings people together: Singing creates connection. Group work encourages teamwork, friendship, and a strong sense of community.
Every singing session at Jigsaw begins with a lively vocal warm-up. Using playful exercises and fun songs, we prepare the voice for the session ahead, while building strong foundations in breath and vocal technique. Warm-ups include exciting games designed to develop pitch, rhythm, memory, expression, and dynamics, in way to bring singing to life!
Once voices are ready, we move on to learning songs. These change every few weeks (depending on the term!) to keep things fresh and exciting, and we explore a variety of genres so there’s something for everyone. Depending on the piece, students might learn harmonies, work on blending as a group, or add performance elements and build characters.
For us, singing isn’t about endless scales or rigid routines, it’s about creating an experience that feels dynamic, joyful, and inspiring. By using music children love, from classics and musical theatre hits, to current chart favourites, we make every class something they look forward to.
