Spotlight on Lyric-Louise – Jigsaw Ilford student!

Who remembers their first day at Jigsaw? For some of our youngest members they may not remember their first ever session at Jigsaw, but there are some students whose first days we never forget! Lyric-Louise joined Jigsaw Arts Ilford in 2020 when she was just 3 years old. School Manager Megan remembers Lyric’s first day vividly! Lyric was very upset to be leaving her mum at registration and was hesitant to join the performing arts class at first. Once in the classroom, Megan stayed with Lyric to help settle her in while teacher Yazmin encouraged all of the students to get involved in some fun activities.

By the end of the session, Lyric was joining in with the activities and left Jigsaw with a smile on her face. It is amazing to see the transformation from tearful drop off’s to entering the classroom without batting an eyelid! Lyric has grown in confidence and she now skips into class every week! This is why we decided to spend some time with Lyric recently and ask her some questions about how she feels about Jigsaw Ilford and what her future ambitions might be.

“My name is Lyric-Louise, I’m 6 years old and my family are from Barbados in the Caribbean.”

When did you start at Jigsaw Ilford?

I joined Jigsaw Ilford at 3 years old, in the 3-4 years class.

Do you have any brothers or sisters? Do they attend Jigsaw?

Yes, I have twin sisters who are 2 and an older brother.  They don’t come to Jigsaw because acting is my thing! I’m currently playing Simba in my school’s production of The Lion King!

Why did you decide to come to Jigsaw?

Well when I was 3 I think my mum and dad signed me up to Jigsaw to help develop my confidence in singing and acting. But now I LOVE acting! I didn’t know it when I first joined Jigsaw but then really enjoyed myself and now I love everything about it.

What’s you favourite subject at Jigsaw?

At Jigsaw Ilford, I love acting and singing.  But most of all I love playing games!  My favourite game to play currently is Splat!

What’s the best thing about Jigsaw?

The teachers and acting.  But I actually just love everything about it.

What do you feel you’ve gained from being at Jigsaw?

Found that I love acting and have gained lots of confidence.

Have you had a favourite teacher at Jigsaw?

When I first joined Jigsaw, my teacher was Yazmin and I really liked her.  Then I moved into Grace’s class and she has taught me for the last couple of years. Oh and of course Megan she is always the first smiley person I see!

What are your goals/ambitions for the future?

I’d like to be a scientist or an actor.

Who inspires you?

My mum – she’s a singer on YouTube.

What has been your favourite moment at Jigsaw?

All of it! But especially playing the role of Annie when we did our version of this in show term.

Who is your favourite actor/actress?

Robin in Teen Titans or the 2 girls who play Annie in the new and old film (Aileen Quinn & Quvenzhané Wallis)

If you had a film of your life who would play you?

Me obviously or my friend Elianna, who also comes to Jigsaw!

Anything else you think we should know about you?

I love millions of songs, and I’m called Lyric because when I was a baby I loved music and would dance all the time.

We know that Lyric is going to be a student at Jigsaw Ilford for a long time, she’s already told Megan that she will be at the school until she is 18 and then she’s going to work at the school.  We love Lyric’s enthusiasm and joy and we hope she does continue her Jigsaw journey with us over the coming years!
