This week we put the spotlight on Yazmin who is joining Jigsaw Enfield this term as a Performing Arts teacher for our youngest students! What you might not know is that Yazmin used to be a Jigsaw student!

Yazmin (right) is also an actress and she recently completed a run on the West End in Les Misérables as Understudy Eponine. We caught up with Yazmin to find out more…
My name is Yazmin King, and my love for the arts began at the age of 4 when I first joined Jigsaw. Saturdays quickly became the highlight of my week as I immersed myself in the creative world of the arts. My passion deepened even further when I won a singing competition at primary school, a moment that truly sparked my journey. Thanks to the support of my parents, I was able to take private singing lessons, as well as learn the viola and flute, all of which further fueled my love for music and performance.
I became part of the Jigsaw family in 2004 as a student and spent an incredible 13 years growing and learning with them. My journey came full circle when I had the opportunity to complete my Work Experience at Jigsaw’s Head Office. In 2017, I stepped into a role as an assistant, and in 2019, I found my passion for teaching, guiding our youngest Jigsaw students through the exciting world of Performing Arts. In 2022, I took a leap to follow my performing career, but my heart remains tied to Jigsaw, where I am returning to inspire and nurture the next generation of artists.
There’s something truly magical about watching students evolve—their confidence grows, and their passion for the arts comes alive in ways that are both inspiring and rewarding. It’s incredible to see them step into their own, discovering new strengths, and embracing creativity with newfound enthusiasm. Being part of that transformation is why I love teaching—it’s not just about skills; it’s about igniting a spark that stays with them for life.
Working on Les Misérables was truly a dream come true. Eponine has always been one of my dream roles, holding a particularly special place in my heart since I first played her in Mountview’s drama school production in my 3rd year. To then understudy the role and have the chance to perform it on the West End felt like a full-circle moment that I could hardly believe was real.
Some of the standout moments for me were the initial phone call when I booked the job—I genuinely thought my agent was pulling my leg! It was surreal to think that the dreams I had when I was younger were about to come to true. Making my Eponine debut and getting to sing one of the most iconic musical theatre songs “On My Own” on a West End stage was an experience I’ll never forget. There truly is no feeling quite like it.
The cast embraced me like family, and I learned so much about the industry—particularly the importance of balancing work and life. As my first job in the West End, there was so much to take in, and I’ll always be grateful to my colleagues for their guidance and support. I also met some of my closest friends on this job, which is something I’ll treasure forever.
The biggest takeaway for me was the importance of being authentic and not worrying about what others think.
Moving forward, I’m excited for whatever comes next—whether it’s another West End role or an opportunity in TV or film. I’m ready for the next chapter!
Follow your dreams, no matter how big they are, and don’t let the negative people bring you down. Stay focused on what truly matters—your craft. Put in the time, the effort, and the passion to hone it to perfection. Commitment is key, and through it all, stay true to yourself. You’ve got this!
