When Jigsaw Harrow met Mrs Doubtfire at the Theatre!
- Published Date: February 7, 2024
Jigsaw Harrow kicked off 2024 with an exciting theatre trip to see the new musical Mrs Doubtfire at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London’s West End! It may have been pouring with rain, but it didn’t dampen our spirits, as we set off together on the tube into London, which was still looking beautiful covered in twinkly Christmas lights.
The Jigsaw Harrow students knew of Mrs Doubtfire from the 1993 film starring Robin Williams, so they were all really excited to see how this would be turned into a musical … and it didn’t disappoint!
Mrs Doubtfire is a genuinely funny comedy musical which had us all laughing out loud. The show is witty, heart-warming and wildly entertaining! It has some fabulous new songs and dazzling dance numbers which had us all up on our feet during the finale.
Gabriel Vick, who plays the iconic character of Daniel Hillard/Mrs Doubtfire gave a phenomenal performance. He was constantly changing clothes, changing his voice, putting on a wig, taking off the wig, adding high heels, taking them off again … it was exhausting just watching him.
Some of the Mrs Doubtfire cast performed in The Big Night of Musicals where they performed the musical number Make Me a Woman. If you missed it you can watch it on BBCiplayer to get a feel for the show.
Here at Jigsaw Harrow we are now preparing for our own musical theatre show, Back in Time, which the students will be performing for friends and families at the end of March. Everyone is really excited and working hard. Getting out to see live theatre is such a great experience for our students and something we try to do twice a year. Watching Mrs Doubtfire was both uplifting and inspiring.
