Youth Theatre Production of Bassett Wows Audiences in London

Bassett Jigsaw Youth Theatre
Bassett at NT Connections

First premièring at the Soho Theatre as part of the National Theatre Connections scheme in 2011, Bassett is a modern, gritty play set in the classroom of a school in the market town of Wootten Bassett. Exploring mature themes, the choice of play meant that students were able to tackle some difficult text, and director Andy Hutchings was absolutely delighted with the focus, commitment and maturity shown by the cast.

The Oxford House Theatre

This was the first time that JYTC had performed in London’s Oxford House theatre. Situated in Bethnal Green, East London, students enjoyed a packed schedule, with a dress rehearsal, matinee and evening performance all taking place on Saturday. With plenty of food, drink and nervous energy to carry them through the day, students enjoyed a rollercoaster ride culminating in a sensational evening performance which wowed the audience from start to finish.

Keen to join the Jigsaw Youth Theatre Company?

The Jigsaw Youth Company Company (or JYTC as it is known) for students aged 16-20 rehearses once a week in central London. From modern playwrights to Shakespeare and the classics, the diverse range of material covered means that the sessions are varied and engaging, giving students the chance to develop the skills that they have already learnt in Jigsaw’s weekend drama, singing and dance classes. Workshops and rehearsals regularly culminate in a production which takes place at a central London theatre to invited audiences of friends and families.
